This group primarily focuses on maintaining governmental linkages with state agencies (Office for People with Developmental Disabilities, Adult Career and Continuing Education Services - Vocational Rehabilitation, Education Department, Office of Mental Health, Commission for the Blind and Visually Handicapped, Department of Health, Developmental Disabilities Planning Council, etc.) responsible for ensuring the integration of individuals with disabilities into their communities. The Committee is responsible for ensuring inclusion and the promotion of concepts on individuality, empowerment, choice, and integration for individuals with disabilities into current Federal and State legislation and initiatives.
This Committee is responsible for the development of the annual state SE Institute, to be sponsored or cosponsored by New York State APSE. The Committee begins planning the following year's Institute the month after that year's Institute has occurred, with meeting times scheduled as the group sees appropriate for the first five to six months, and then meeting monthly thereafter. The Committee establishes the theme-dates-place, selects keynote presentations, elicits sponsorship, selects presentations, and organizes Institute material and details. This Committee is also responsible for disseminating information (presenters, time, places, etc.) of relevant training opportunities both in New York state and nationally. Duties also include the development of regional training programs on topics including transition, integrated employment, or acquisition of grant support for such activities.
This Committee is responsible for the designing, editing, story writing, and fact finding for the Empire Times, to be published semi-annually.
This Committee is composed of Committee Chairpersons, New York State APSE Officers, regional representatives, and other appointed officials from the general membership. This group primarily directs the activities and focus of New York State APSE, and maintains a diverse representation of the general membership.
